Over the past few months our tradespeople have been hard at work on site and Brenda has been busy choosing fixtures and finishes for her new home. One member of this building project has been very quiet, and we’ve started to wonder—what has Eddy been doing?

Here’s the answer.

When Brenda and Eddy selected the Rumblestone from Milestone’s wide range of plans, Eddy set to work on creating a scale model of his family’s new home.

“Clearly, some people have too much time on their hands,” says Brenda. But secretly, she’s just as impressed with her husband’s efforts as we are.

With such a knack for building, we’re starting to think Eddy could have purchased a Milestone kitset and built his new home himself!

It’s all hands on deck in Carterton today as work steps up a gear on our charity building project.

The team from Bruce Buchanan Ltd are on site to dig the trenches for sewerage and water drains, Vince from Valley Plumbing is hard at work inside, and Andrew from Laser Electrical is here to install wiring for the home’s heat pump.

As for our apprentice, Wade, he’s been left to clean up the mess!

You’ll usually find Brian Brewster in our Wairarapa office, hard at work as a Milestone Homes New Home Consultant. But today he paid a visit to our building site, and wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty—getting stuck in with a little construction project of his own, erecting a site sign to make sure passers-by know exactly what this exciting project is all about.

From suppliers, to tradespeople, and staff—everyone wants to do their bit for Ronald McDonald House.

Our team in Hawkes Bay have been hard at work installing doors and other internal fixtures in the home.

Meanwhile, Brenda has paid a visit to Torly’s Flooring where Shane and Joan have been helping her sort through the many choices for floor coverings to find the right ones for her new home.

Brenda has gone for a laminate flooring from the popular Park Lane range in “Homestead Oak”.

“I chose laminate flooring as it looks beautiful, is hardwearing and easy to clean, is warmer than tiles and has a nice cushioning feel underfoot which is great when you spend a lot of time in the kitchen!”

We’ve almost reached the half-way point on our charity building project,  and already the gift has been wrapped!

Building wrap protects the framing and helps to insulate the home. With the wrap securely  in place, cladding has begun.

The home will feature a combination of weatherboard and brick for a durable, low maintenance finish with loads of street appeal.

With brick work complete, the weatherboard painted, the roof on and windows in this house is starting to look every bit the family home.

Inside, walls are being lined and the bedrooms are being fitted with wardrobes.

Brenda is in the process of choosing floor coverings and we’re looking forward to sharing her selections with you over the coming days.

The national Fieldays are in June, but you won’t have to wait ‘till then to enjoy a fun and informative day out for the whole family.

The regional field days kick off next week in Waimumu, with events in Dargaville and Feilding to follow.

It’s been a lively day on the Hawke’s Bay build, with several contractors working on site.

Martin and the team from Inex are here installing the ceiling panels, Steve is back completing the brick work, and Reihana from Laser Electrical is finishing up the wiring.

As the saying goes, many hands make light work.

It seems like Brenda and Eddy’s new home will be ready to go in no time.

What a difference a week makes.

When we last checked in with our Wairarapa team, the frames and trusses were going up.

We turn our eyes for just a few days, and already the roof is on!

Dan, Barry and Justin have been working at lightning speed to steer this charity build to completion, and help the cause of Ronald McDonald House.
